Randi's' Answer: Hello Victoria and thank you for asking one of THE best questions (and one of the most frequently asked from my clients!) Building your wardrobe takes time and thoughtfulness - I always recommend starting slowly, especially when you're on a budget. Curating the wardrobe of your dreams requires you to invest in select pieces and add new items slowly and thoughtfully. First and foremost, let's begin with these 5 timeless essentials of any wardrobe: 1. The Black Pant: Depending on your shape and style, you can play around with cuts and fabrics, but a sleek and classic skinny black pant is super versatile and ALWAYS on trend. I think ponte is the best choice overall. Recommendation: JCrew and Banana Republic offer amazing options at fair prices. 2. The White Shirt: A crisp white button down NEVER goes out of style. You can wear it tucked into a pencil skirt for work (how about a leather black one?!), you can wear it loosely tucked into flare jeans and heels for girls night (so Gwyneth!), or you can toss it over leggings and wrap a cozy scarf around it for Sunday morning brunch. Recommendation: Again, I have to go with JCrew on this one or browse the sale section at Shopbop for slightly trendier options. 3. The Blazer: Find a fitted yet classic blazer in black or navy to start with. If the sleeves need shortening, bring it to the tailor - do not shy away from a fabulous find if it doesn't fit perfectly. We are all different shapes and sizes, so a little tweaking is totally normal (and worth the $25 hemming fee, trust me!) You will end up wearing this blazer SO much more than you think! It's appropriate for work and amazingly versatile for every day (or night!) I love wearing flared denim with a silky t-shirt and a blazer - it's so chic yet totally effortless. Recommendation: I love Nordstrom for a million reasons, and blazers are definitely one of them. Try the TBD department if you can splurge or browse through the Rack - you won't be disappointed! 4. The LBD: A little black dress never, ever, ever goes out of style - as long as you choose a classic and sophisticated shape. I think a high neck or cap sleeve offers a little extra sass but keeps it simple. Choose ponte or jersey for the most forgiving materials - they also pack well and last FOREVER. Recommendation: Nicole Miller makes THE best cocktail dresses and you can find her pieces online for great prices! 5. The Nude Pump: Ok, you kinda have to just got for it when it comes to this shoe - splurge a bit and take the time to try on the designer who will fit your foot best. I think a pointed toe and skinny heel will ALWAYS look expensive and timeless. I promise you will wear this shoe a gazillion times so it will totally be worth the money. Recommendation: Nordstrom, Nordstrom, Nordstrom. They have THE best selection and most forgiving return policy. So there you have it - the best way to kick start the wardrobe of your dreams at any budget. Once you lay the foundation with these key pieces, you can start adding accessories (layered necklaces, funky scarfs, cool bags) that will allow you to switch up your looks in a snap! When you are ready, we can then move on to the next 5 pieces (and then the next and the next!), but curating your closet takes time so let's not rush it. Patience and a good eye will leave you with a closet filled with pieces you love and actually want to wear! Hope this helps! Yours in style,~ Randi Twitter: @randipund

Randi's' Answer: As someone who spent YEARS in non-profit and also loves to look stylish, I can totally appreciate your question! My advice would be to wear something that is tailored and classic yet not overly stuffy since the environment is more casual than most offices. I love to wear cropped cigarette pants (not too tight) in a grey or navy paired with a silk shell tank (nothing low cut). Add a statement necklace that can provide a pop of color and be sure to bring a cardigan as a layering piece. For shoes, I recommend closed toes with a modest heel - but feel free to rock a print or fun color on your feet! You want your personality to shine through while maintaining a professional and polished look. Feel free to be in touch with any other questions or if you would like me to put together a Lookbook with outfit ideas. Good luck at your interview - you are gonna ROCK!

I honestly love helping people feel great about themselves! I am a trained therapist and worked as a social worker for years, so my approach stems from a place of strength building and helping people to be their best selves on a daily basis. My love of fashion has always made me the go-to shopper for all of my friends and family throughout my life, so making the leap to stylist as a profession was a no-brainer!
On top of being a stylist and social worker, I am also a Mom, so I totally "get" time constraints, the need for kid-friendly fabric choices, and ensembles that are easy to wear! My aesthetic is definitely classic with a modern twist - I think simple and sophisticated is always a great combination for a timeless look.
A lot of clients worry that they can't afford the wardrobe of their dreams. While I do think we need to splurge on key investment pieces, I wholeheartedly believe that you can dress well without blowing your budget. It's about focusing on your unique style and making smart choices (I mean, who doesn't love a great sale item?!) My aesthetic is definitely classic with a modern twist - I think simple and sophisticated is always a great combination for a timeless look.
