Questions answered by Lauren

I have a sensitive stomach and am currently gluten free. I've been hearing a lot about low FODMAP diets, but not sure that's the best next step. Anything else I should try?

Date posted: Mar 15, 2016 | FEEL
Lauren's' Answer: <div>Going gluten-free can be very helpful! I know many of my clients have benefited from that. Other options would include combining&nbsp;a dairy-free approach with your gluten-free diet, or adopting a full Paleo diet altogether. This&nbsp;means no grains, dairy, legumes, or added sugars. I've actually found the Paleo diet to be more helpful for most of my digestive health clients than the FODMAP diet. Additionally, it's a more practical and&nbsp;manageable lifestyle than FODMAP.&nbsp;</div>

What's the best way to give up sugar and reduce cravings?

Date posted: Mar 16, 2016 | FEEL
Lauren's' Answer: <div>Great question! Double up on your lean protein, like eggs, fish, and chicken. Also, add in some fiber-rich carbs, like leafy greens, carrots, sweet potato, and quinoa, to help keep your blood sugar stable. Finally, have some low-sugar sweet treats on-the-ready to help wean you off the real thing. For example, Enlightened ice cream bars and pints have only a few grams sugar but are incredibly satisfying when that ice cream craving hits. Grabbing a&nbsp;Quest bar, Golda Bar, or Think Thin bar can also help indulge that craving for sweetness without hitting you with double-digit sugar grams!</div>

FAQs

What do you enjoy most about your line of work?

I really love finding what works for each one of my clients. It's amazing how much we're bombarded with one-size-fits-all nutrition advice day after day! It's a never-ending train of often misleading nutrition tips and diets that often leave people feeling discouraged. I love working closely with each client to undo the negative thinking around dieting and making their new lifestyle work for them. Seeing their success and the joy that comes along with that is priceless.

How does your approach stand out?

I sum up my approach with this: Every body needs something different than the next. I work with the perspective that what works for one client won't always work for another one. I see each client individually and tailor their nutrition plan to their needs and personality.

What is the most common question customers ask you and what is your answer?

One of the most common questions I get is if fat causes weight gain. I love to bust this decades-old myth! The short answer is no. We need a variety of fats in our diet for a healthy metabolism and strong immune function. Without healthy fats, we can suffer from chronic illnesses, weight gain (yes, true!), autoimmune illnesses, and fatigue. Incorporating adequate healthy fats into our daily routine can actually support our energy levels, immune system, and a healthy weight.
